Sudan Studies Association (SSA) is dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge about all aspects of life in Sudan and South Sudan. Founded in 1981, the association seeks to promote research which is academically rigorous, historically informed and which addresses the dynamics that shape both nations and their relationships with neighboring countries.
Conferences are held annually in North America – details of which can be found on this site. In addition, and with our collaborating partners, we also hold international conferences, which in recent years have been convened in Bergen, Norway, Pretoria, South Africa, and Bonn, Germany. We welcome new members, partner collaborations and encourage emerging scholars to join.
